Livestream costs: cameras, sound and viewing angle

The more cameras, angles and sound sources are used, the more equipment and personnel are needed to produce the livestream. This increases the costs for livestream cameras and sound.

With classic broadcast cameras, each cameraman operates one camera and captures the desired angles. Depending on the number of cameras, the number of personnel required also increases.

One way to save costs is to use PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras. Three to four of these cameras can be controlled centrally by one person and enable different viewing angles and camera settings without the need for several camera operators. This reduces the need for additional personnel and therefore lowers camera team costs.

Technical advances in PTZ cameras also make it possible to use autotracking. This function can further relieve the camera operator, as the camera automatically follows a person on stage. The image section, the zoom factor and the speed of the camera movements are just some of the functions that are defined in advance and then executed automatically.

A sound engineer is also required for more than three sound sources to ensure optimum sound quality in the stream and also in the room.

Another factor is the speakers, i.e. the people who present or speak during the livestream. The more speakers are involved, the more microphones are needed. (Unless there are handheld microphones that are shared or microphones that are permanently installed on the lectern).

To summarize, you should ask yourself the following questions: How many speakers will be speaking? Does everyone need their own microphone? How many camera angles make sense and what type of camera is suitable for your stream?
